Bountiful
Bouquets has been
created to provide the financial basis for the operation and expansion of
Garden
Harvest's Hunger Program.
Formally created in 1993, Garden Harvest
is a 501-c-3 public charity and organic farm whose mission is the alleviation of hunger and the improvement of
nutrition of the nation's most economically disadvantaged families and
individuals. It has been accomplishing this mission by growing and donating
100% of its harvest of organic fruit and vegetables to the emergency food
agencies that feed the needy.
The two founders, themselves
full time volunteers, have been joined by an outpouring of volunteer support,
over 5000 people each year, who help produce, harvest, and deliver hundreds of
thousands of pounds of organic produce every year.
Besides this crucial
service of meeting emergency food needs, Garden Harvest works to prevent
hunger in the long term through it's B.R.A.V.E. Program (Baltimore
Regenerative Agriculture and Visionary Ecology Program), funded in part
by the USDA and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Through both classroom
and field instruction, Garden Harvest teaches people of all ages, from
every economic level, and of any ethnic background, methods of
sustainable food, flower, and herb production. By so doing, Garden
Harvest helps to empower people to grow food for themselves and for
others, and in ways that preserve and regenerate the
Earth's precious soil and water. |
